Our Timber Policy

Our Timber Policy is about sustainability; not just as a contemporary catch phrase but as a genuine ethos.

Sackville Oak Frames believe in recognising and understanding our environmental responsibilities – we want a well stocked timber industry for our children to work in.

Although timber is one of the most sustainable and renewable resources the building industry has available to it, careful attention must be paid to exactly where the timber that we use comes from. We work primarily with native and European hardwoods that take many years to come to maturity.

We understand that the domestic and European timber industry is in desperate need of long term investment, we believe in making sure that the valuable resource is replenished for our children and our children’s’ children. For this reason we make sure that all of our wood comes from responsibly managed and sustainable sources.

We aim to only buy and process timber that comes with an “Assured Chain Of Custody”, meaning that we can trace the timber through the supply chain to its source – a properly managed forest which is safe guarding the future of commercial forests throughout Europe and the world.

The European timber market is being infiltrated with cheaper hardwoods that have unreliable sources. We spend a lot of time trying to secure sources that are sustainable, this can mean that we have to pay more for our timber at source, but we believe in sustainability over profit, and continually strive to make sure that the extra costs reflect the energy being invested in the future of our forests.

We make sure that all of our major suppliers are registered with the FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council), TRADA (Timber Research And Development Agency) the Timber Trade Federation and PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification – the worlds largest forest certification organisation). All of whom exist to protect the environment, our global timber supplies and also the communities directly involved and affected by forestry activities.
