Timber Policy
Our Timber Policy is about sustainability, not just as a contemporary catch phrase, but as a genuine ethos.
We believe in recognising and understanding our environmental responsibilities.
Although timber is one of the most sustainable and renewable resources, careful attention must be paid to exactly where the timber that we use comes from. We work primarily with native and European hardwoods.
We understand that the domestic and European timber industry is in desperate need of long term investment. We believe in making sure that the valuable resource is replenished for future generations. For this reason we make sure that all of our oak comes from responsibly managed and sustainable sources.
We only buy and process timber that comes with an “Assured Chain Of Custody”. This means that we can trace the timber through the supply chain to its source; a properly managed forest, which safeguards the future of commercial forests throughout Europe.
We have established connections and ensure our timber is from secure sources that are genuinely sustainable. This can mean that we have to pay more for our timber, but we believe in sustainability over profit and continually strive to make sure that the extra costs reflect the energy being invested in the future of our forests.
We make sure that all of our major suppliers are registered with the FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council), TRADA (Timber Research And Development Agency) the Timber Trade Federation and PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification. This is the Worlds largest forest certification organisation). All of whom exist to protect the environment, our global timber supplies and also the communities directly involved and affected by forestry activities.
